ABOUT
Born and raised in Mexico City and currently based in Basel, Switzerland, Margarita is a photographer with the instincts of a journalist and the soul of a storyteller. A former international correspondent, she has a sharp eye for the unseen, capturing the raw poetry hidden in the everyday. Through her lens, the streets are not just roads or public spaces, they are living, breathing narratives waiting to unfold.
Deeply influenced by art, film and literature, Margarita’s photography thrives on fleeting moments, the split seconds that often go unnoticed. She gravitates toward the invisible, the overlooked, the ordinary souls moving through life in anonymity. Her work blends different styles of street photography, yet a signature thread runs through it: mysterious backdrops, cinematic atmospheres, and almost a dreamlike sense of reality. A restless traveler at heart, her fascination with Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” philosophy fuels her passion for capturing the spirit of diverse places around the world.
Margarita’s career as a journalist took her from Mexico City and Madrid to Brussels, where she worked as an international correspondent. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism (Mexico), an MA in Spanish Literature (St. Louis, MO), and a Diploma in Photography and Digital Imaging (Singapore). Now, based in Basel, Switzerland, she is a co-founder of the Street Photography Club Basel (SPCB). Her work has been exhibited in Paris, Singapore, Milan and Basel, solidifying her reputation as a visual storyteller who finds magic in the mundane.
